 Rotary encoders are widely used in various control systems as a feedback device. These devices are rugged and can be mounted on any rotating shaft. The counters provide pulses as output and direction can be identified. These rotary encoders are available with various resolutions as pulses per revolution. It is possible to monitor & control motor using these rotary encoders. However good counters are required to measure & count these pulses for monitoring or controlling the motion. Counter must be able to distinguish direction as well as stray pulses.
