Rahul Deshpande is the grandson of legendary classical maestro, Late Dr. Vasantrao Deshpande. Born in 1979 in Pune-Maharastra, he started taking music lessons at the tender age of seven from Late Shri Gangadharbua Pimpalkhare who introduced Rahul to the 7 notes and its different combinations, the ragas. Rahul continued his further education in music under Late Shri Madhusudhan Patwardhan and then under Smt. Ushatai Chipalkatti. These able gurus were instrumental in shaping his thought process as an independent singer. The culmination of his formal education in music occurred when he met Pt. Mukul Shivaputra, son of another legend, close friend and contemporary of Vasantrao Deshpande, , Pt. Kumar Gandharva. He even learned tabla for a few years under Shri. Suresh Samant, thereby getting a comfortable command over rhythm and appreciation of the “lay”. |
